McCrain's
in Middle Earth
A travel dialogue of our adventures
in New Zealand
In February 2004, Jim and Kathy McCrain
began a five month oddessy in New Zealand. Kathy was transferred to
Auckland for a temporary work assignment, and Jim followed her for moral
support. (Isn't he just the greatest husband?) What follows is Jim's
account of this adventure.
Hanmer
Springs: An Oasis!
July 28, 2004
All
that water yesterday inspired us! We spent today soaking in the thermal
pools of Hanmer Springs. And I do mean ALL DAY! Just as I had done
on
my previous visit (last April), Kathy and I got to the hot springs early
in the morning, soaked until well after noon, had a leisurely lunch,
and then went back to the pools for another four hours. Boy,
did
we need this rest day! We have traveled over 3400 kilometers
in just a few days, and been on the run ever since we started.
And if you read some of
my earlier adventures on the South Island, you will remember that I
made several new
friends
during that trip. Well, guess who I ran into at the hot
springs? It was Joe!
He
is the friend of Jerry and Marnos, that they had originally met in Thailand.
We ran into him in Christchurch in April, and then today sat next to
him in the hot springs! Kathy always says that I cannot go anywhere
without running into someone that I know. I guess that maybe she is
right. In case you don’t remember what Joe looks like,
here are some pictures from last April.
