McCrain's in Middle Earth
A travel dialogue of our adventures in New Zealand

In February 2004, Jim and Kathy McCrain began a five month oddessy in New Zealand. Kathy was transferred to Auckland for a temporary work assignment, and Jim followed her for moral support. (Isn't he just the greatest husband?) What follows is Jim's account of this adventure.

What is nine feet tall, round, and capable of carrying a full-grown adult male down a 700 foot hill?

Have you ever wondered what a hamster feels like when he is inside one of those little plastic balls?

The answer to both questions is:

ZORB!

Now I don't know who came up with this idea, but how could I resist it? Imagine strapping yourself into a big, inflated rubber ball, and then rolling head-over-heals down a 200 meter hill! Voluntarily! What a rush! And then, imagine filling the ball with water first! Then, don't just roll down the straight slope, but take the "zig-zag" course. For extra fun, put some soap suds in there with you, and take the "wash cycle!" I want to do it again!

ZORBING! It's a New Zealand phenomenon.
