In February 2004, Jim and Kathy McCrain began a five month oddessy in New Zealand. Kathy was transferred to Auckland for a temporary work assignment, and Jim followed her for moral support. (Isn't he just the greatest husband?) What follows is Jim's account of this adventure.
April 25: A day at the Beach
20 kilometers west of Auckland
Today
I decided to take a quick day-trip to the west Auckland coastline. This
would be my first trip to see the Tasman Sea. I had heard 
that
there was a beautiful black-sand beach, and also a very good surfing
area. Since I don't surf, I decided just to watch. (For the record,
I think that most water-sports are simply insane! You won't catch ME
doing anything that dangerous!) Anyway, here is a quick view of
what I saw.
